Halfway

June 14. Half over. Hard to believe. In no time at all, I'll be back behind the desk. "August 1" and "3 months" were terms that seemed to carry lots of time at one point.

In retrospect, much has been accomplished: my son-in-law has graduated and started a new job; I've had a chance to minister and be blessed in the DR; the "To Do list" around the house has been destroyed; and a family vacation completed. As Alexander the Great said, "What's left to do?"

Tonight we leave for Alaska. We'll overnight in Seattle before completing our first leg to Ketchikan on Friday. Our family lived for 2 winters in Ketchikan. That translates to lots of rain and great friendships. One of my favorite city league basketball stories happened here. Since we didn't know anyone, my brother and I were placed on a random team. Our team wasn't very good. In the season ending tournament, I got a rebound, thew the outlet to my brother who made a great pass to a teammate for an apparent layup- only the ball drilled our teammate in the head and went out of bounds. During a break in the action, my brother apologized and joked with him, "couldn't you see that coming?" It was then that we learned our teammate was actually blind in his right eye and had not seen it coming... all season! Teamwork is the dreamwork.

Sal and I will spend the weekend with some great friends before proceeding to Juneau on Monday.

If you live in or around Hesston, keep an eye on my boy and my dad. They both will be fine without us, but you never know what might come up over the next 6 weeks.
