Average

I'll be honest - I haven't known what to blog about since returning home. Everything feels routine, mundane, even boring. I think this is what I was afraid of when I was in the DR. What will I do when I come down from the mountain top? The temptation is to want to live there.

So what are the average, everyday, basic things God has let me be a part of lately?

* I get to go on a walk with Sal twice a day. It is so much fun. We discuss what we will (or won't) do that day. We discus what we did (or didn't) do that day.  We laugh. We touch the sign (sometimes).  We stop and connect with neighbors.

* We went to the new pool. The city and school came together to complete a great project for our community. Yesterday was my first time there. My experience began with the revelation that I can't go down the slide with rivets on my swimming trunks. I would have thought by now that slide makers and swim trunk makers could come up with a solution to this problem. But alas, there would be no sliding for this guy. However I thoroughly enjoyed pool hoops with the junior highers. And I got to observe a young woman take a stand for what is right, even when the world might mock her. Very proud of her.

* My day-to-day journey has taken me to the hardware store, the gas station, the library, the gym, the church & etc. It sounds average. But there have been conversations about the DR; how I daily cope with depression; hugs on the sidewalk; discussions of what God is saying and where He is leading.

Average is good. Average is where we all live day-to-day. Average means an opportunity for transparent relationships. Average promotes accountability.

I love the mountain tops. I struggle in the valleys. But average is most of life and I like average. 😎
