Commencement

Saturday's graduation at Grace University not only marked a new beginning for the students, but also was the last event in the 75 years of Grace University's existance.  Ironiclly, it was the largest graduating class for Grace as well.  This was because students either took extra hours to complete their degree (one took 30 hours this semester! 30 hours!) and others were able to get a 2 year certificate.

In some ways it was a typical graducation: it was long; it was hot; it was boring at times.  There were a couple of highlights.  One, my son-in-law, Spencer, graduated.  Very proud to witness this accomplishment.  Looking forward to what God has next for he and Cass.

The other highlight was the commencement speaker. Jerry Regier is best known for being the founder of the Family Research Council, but is also a Grace grad and a good friend of my dad.  He brought a great perspective in the midst of a sad event.  One major take away from his address was that ministries are so often know for their location; for their buildings.  But, he said, at the end of May there will no longer be any buildings, just the lives of graduates to live out the legacy of Grace University. The same could also be said of the Church.  We attend at them each weekend, but we are truly called to be the Church, not just attend it.

Tomorrow will be all about wrapping things up around the house and taking my Applied Hermeneutics final.  Tuesday I leave for the Dominican Republic.  I will be there from May 8-19.  Sal and Carson will hold down the fort.
